How to Identify what year 4l80E???
#1
I am going to buy a used 4l80E and need to figure out what year it is from. My truck is a 98 and I know 93-00 will work. Can I tell by the pins on the plug. I know the cooler lines are together on the 97-00 ones. I basically need to make sure it is not older than 93. Thanks

Close, but actually the 4l80e ran the split style cooler lines up to the 97 ish range. They are referred to no center lube transmissions. The 93 and up will work but the only way to make sure it is new enough is to verify the trans housing has the bosses for the neutral safety switch bracket. There are changes that were made in the trans almost every year or so, so obviously the newer the better.

Correct, aside from the extra bolt hole at the top of the trans, the trans also has the oil in/out fitting closer together and are known as the center lube style. There are other changes as well involving the reaction carrier and later, the overdrive sprag change. most of the updates can be retrofitted to earlier transmission when rebuilding...

I need to make sure its not a diesel because then I guess the valve body and torque converter are different.
