do what was suggested with pulling a line to the aux cooler and start the engine. if the pump works properly, you'll have fluid pumpin' out. make sure you have a bucket and a buddy to help ya with this.

Three quarts doesn't sound like enough. Not sure what the capacities are, but I think I remember my 4L80E taking 14 quarts dry. Are you 110% sure that there's enough fluid in there? Low fluid level would cause everything you're talking about.

The pan doesn't, but there is a **** ton of fluid that ends up everywhere else in the trans. The converter itself holds a few quarts, and remember that there are tons of passageways and crap in the valve body that need to be filled. I'm guessing that once you started the engine the tranny pump sucked the pan dry. Your symptoms are pretty much identical to what happened to me when I forgot to fill my trans back up after swapping valve bodies.

When you check the fluid level, make sure you check it with the engine running and on a flat/level surface.

Did a quick google search and found this
Fluid Capacity: (approximate)
Dry: 7.9L (8.4qt) with 245mm converter 10.8L (11.4qt) with 300mm converter

Sweet, glad you got it all figured out

Make sure you didn't overfill it too, 11 quarts sounds like a lot if there was already 3 in there.

+1

Make sure to check it with the fluid warm and the motor running.
