There is a heat shield there that on my truck I bent up with a hammer to make it easier but I didnt do that on the other trucks and still managed to get it out and no leaks after I put it back in. Take my advice for what its worth but it does work.

I'll agree. On an 03 SSS, it is very tight but does come off as 1slow01Z71 stated. Once you find the angle, you will know what he is talking about. Take care not to bang-up the output shaft when you are doing this. I tend to get pissed off and try to muscle it off which is the wrong way to approach this. Good luck!

KY - I had enough room to get the out with removing the t-case from the fron set of bolts...the trick is once its loose jack the tranny up as far as it goes and muscle it out!! its a bitch but can be done!!

Yeah I went to harbor freight and bought one that goes on your existing jack. Thinking I would pull the tranny out with the x-fer case attached. After getting it home and trying it out there was no way I was going to trust it with the the job. They had another that I think I saw a pic you posted using it. I am considering going to get it but really don't want to spend the money on it and I don't want to drop the torsion bar crossmember.

I have a plan to get it back in. Some muscle, 3 jacks and tie downs for safety will get it done.

Hopefully I won't have to go through this again after getting it back in again this time. If I do I'll try and split it forward the adapter. It sounds like its much easier to do it where I am but getting the seal good is more difficult.

Spoke with PI this week. The had cut open the TC and no evidence of anything physically wrong with the converter. They are basically going to modify the stator to improve mid range torque control.... and if it doesn't work basically told me I'm out of luck. Sell it and we'll help modify the stocker. Only explanation as to why it had worked fine for months and not now is wear to the TCC clutch causing a little bit of resistance until recently.

I crawled under the truck last night and put the transfer case and transmission together in preperation of putting it back together. There is no way in hell I am going to attempt putting it back in there as a single piece. I'm going to split it back apart tonight.

Well I'm right back where I started.. Truck running. 4th gear still slipping but with the stock converter and yes a small drip of fluid dripping off the transmission mount. Didn't fix a damn thing.

I had a similar dilemma except instead of replacing the trans stuff I replaced heads and lifters. Life's a bitch.
