Question Gears and locker's for a Z71

Who is the best (or one of the best) manufacture's that manufacture gears and a locker (just the front) for my truck?? I want to R&R the front also. I'm going with the Tru-Trac for the rear, so what can I do for the front to make it more bullet proof? I'm mean 4:10's in front and rear but what kind of setup do I need for the front??

Thanks,

James

The only locker that is available for the front is the Eaton E-Locker, cost about $800. As for the gear set stay with the oem.

That's right, somebody will chime in if they know of a better way to go.

Richmond gears by far, I have broken 3.08's, 3.42's 3.73 GM gears and I have broken a set of Richmond 4.10's but the Richmonds lasted the longest, by a long shot. Thats kinda weird becaus ethe 4,10 ratio is weaker than the higher gears are, this is due to the small pinion gear. if you lay a 4.10 and 3.08 pinion gear next to eaxch other, the dif. is quite large.

My Richmond 4.10's survived 3 Powertrax lockrite failures as well as an open dif. failure in which the carrier split right in 1/2, it was literally in 2 halves. I cleaned up the rough edges of teh Richmond ring and pinion and reinstalled them and got another 100,000 kms out of them, which included roughly 150 1/4 mile passes and severl hundred o-60 mph WOT acceleration runs.

My Richmonds were quiet, they never howled, the 4.10 Richmonds finally broke when I did a torque converter stall test in my driveway, I had teh e-brake and foot brake on tight, put thetrans in 1st and went to WOT. the V6 S10 TC flashed to 2500 rpm then I heard a noise so I let off right away. I drove forward and heard a che ching che ching noise. I had taken off a few pinion teeth. Those gears owed me nothing, they had over 250 1/4 mile passes and over a 1000 WOT acceleration runs in remote areas on pavement on them.

Well theres my opinion on differential gears.

peace

How hard is it to change out the 8.25 for the 9.25?

Lockers in the front end make steering not fun... I put a powertrax in the front of my old 1984 chevy and it was a mistake. It was my off-road play truck and there really was no benefit at all to having the locker in the front. It just put way too much stress on the front axle u-joints and I would imagine will do the same to CV joints. Steering while in 4wd was crap and over worked the power steering pump.
