I doubt if there is a sticky for it anywhere. It is a very easy, straight forward swap. You do not have to drop the valvebody.

I never gave it much thought---It is really easy.
1. Remove the trans pan.
2. Remove the "U" shaped spacer spring from the shift shaft from inside the trans.
3. Remove the shift shaft nut from inside the trans.
4. Push shift shaft outward---The detent "Rooster Comb" will detach from the shaft and stay in the trans.
5. Remove shift shaft.
6. It would be a good time to replace the shift shaft seal in the trans case.
7. Install the new longer truck shift shaft in reverse order.

One thing to add to Jeffs post is sometimes the shaft will not just pull out. What works well if you have an impact is to put a nut on the outside threads of the shaft. While using a file and spinning the shaft, file down any high spots that might be there from the internal nut being over tightened. This will be the area where the rooster is keyed to the shaft.
