Default DR or Slick? Size?

Looking to purchase some sticky tires for the SS. Its 06 Silv SS full bolt-ons, 224/228 cam, TBSS intake, 3600 yank, built 60E. I am trying to figure out what size tire I want to run at the track because I can not hook at all. I manage 2.0 60's all day on street tires. I have 3.73's and am 2wd. I thought a 28" tall tire would work well for trap speed. I have a set of 16" stockers for the rear and havent found a set of 17's for up front yet. Iv have seen that you can go faster on a DR if you can hook on it but a slick will hook better but will cause you to run a tad slower on the big end. Can someone spec me a tire that will work the best with my setup. Iv seen M&H Dr's, M/T ET's, and hoosiers. These will be a track only setup. I would like to get a 1.7-8 60'. Further mods will be some spray and eventually some bad boy heads. Any other questions just ask away. Open to any and all suggestions on tires and front runners as well.

Some drag radial MT E/Ts should make you hook pretty good. 28" tire is a good tire size.

So would a 295/50/16 have enough contact patch but not be too much?
