Just curious. Can you get a solid yoke? I'd like to set up a 4L80 in my pre-runner and use a solid yoke, then put the slip in the rear shaft. Is this option possible?

Mine is fixed and I have a slip shaft... My 4l80 was orig 4x4, so when I switched the guts I kinda built it like that. Not sure what parts I used or if it was for a th400 or not... Sorry, Ill ask the tranny man when I see him next.

so if I got a 4X4 tranny and put a 2WD tailshaft I could frankenstein some of the parts and make it a solid yoke?

It all depends on what vehicle it was in. If it had a 1 peice drive shaft it will most likely have a slip yoke. If it had 2 or more joints it would most likely be a fixed yoke.

ok, so they can come in different configurations? so I want a fixed yoke so I'll just keep my eyes open for one with a fixed yoke?

Yup. Just ask the seller if the yoke is bolted on or if it slide's in and out. If it is missing the slip yoke, ask them if the output shaft has a threaded hole.

If you're going to have the unit gone through then don't worry since the builder can get the right parts and convert it while it's apart.

that's great news!! My Tundra has a slip yoke with no way to convert it to a fixed yoke. Drives me nuts to have to limit the wheel travel to keep the driveshaft from pushing into the tranny.

Putting a slip in the rear shaft and keeping the slip in the tranny caused the carrier bearing to slip out of it's bushing. This LS swap gets better and better having all these options
