Default is this dip or dent supposed to be here? 4l80e valve body mating surface

I picked up a 4l80e off craigslist for $50.00. It needs lots of parts, but Im going to try and rebuild it if its salvageable. I noticed this little dip or dent on the outside edge of the manual 2 brake servo cylinder and am curious if this is going to render the case no good. It doesnt look like it should be there but looks like it was machined and not hit. Im also curious as I was dissassembling some of the clutch assemblies, the steels had v notches in them, and they seem to come out in any random order. What are the notches for or do they serve a purpose? One of the assemblies had the notches all lined up, but that was the only way they would go in that particular assembly. Thanks for the info. Firs ever auto tranny and I figured for $50.00 I couldnt go wrong.

That does not look normal to me. I would get a different one. You might be able to have it milled, but hopefully a tranny chimes in on this one.

Thats what Im fearing. This transmission appears to have never been rebuilt before and I wonder if it has been run its whole life like this. There is a small section at that dent that is unharmed. not sure if it would be enough to seal or not. I hope more chime in so I can decide if I need to start looking for another. Thanks for the reply

I wouldn't put it back together with that damage, but it looks repairable since it's in an easy to access area. These castings aren't too bad to weld on, I've done it myself.

Have the dent built up with some welding. Then machine it back flat. Looks like someone dropped something on it or hit it with a hammer. It could cause a leak if not fixed. This happened to my valve body.
