I had the exact problem. I found that when I put in one side and then started to spin the snap ring, it went right in. Unfortunately I think it was partly just luck.

Make sure you have the whole thing put together properly so that the cover will push in far enough to get the snap ring in place. I used a makeshift press *a vise-clamp reversed to spread, put it against the cover & against the exhaust* anything will work you just have to get the cover in far enough to get the snap ring seated. The O-ring is real tight so getting it in there the first time can be a pain. Once its in it will pretty much stay seated so you can push the ring in by hand.

thats a pita i know... i found a piece of an old table that sat flat on the ground, it had a hole in the middle so i could place it down in the hole and have someone push with a screw driver on top to condense the spring while i put the snap ring on... lol it WASNT easy. Took about 3 tries with pushing the spring down and clamping the ring in place.. see if you can find something that you can do like that with a hole in it.. preferably lower than waist height so whoever is pusing the screw driver in can put all their weight into it.

Is the 4th servo in backwards? Can you tell that the cover is going in far enough? Is the problem the handling the snap ring? Did you do transgo spacers?or a longer pin?

I used a prybar on the center of the cover, put a little dab of grease on the o-ring also. That should help the o-ring go in easier. Also if that doesn't do it make sure the spring on the inside, the one that goes in the case first, is installed right and is not sideways.

ok i wasnt pushing the servo cover in far enough, i saw a tranny at work and noticed that the snap ring was farther back then were i was trying to put it in. the gm tool works great if anyone wants more info on that, it went in in one try. seems like my 1-2 shift is faster now. thanks for the help
