Default Converter slipping?

My truck recently had the CEL come on...2 codes, one was a small evap code that ended up being the vent solenoid on top of the tank. The other was a tranny code for "converter slippage" (aren't they supposed to slip a little?). My friend cleared the codes w/ his Tech2 and I was on my way. 90 miles/5 or 6 key cycles later it came back on w/ the same code (I don't remember the actual PO # off hand) as I was just putting down the road. Just 90 miles of easy driving, no WOTs, etc. Truck runs and drives fine, I don't feel any slippage. I also drive in 3 all the time (100% in-town driving with the tall tires, easier on the trans). So am I out 2K+ for a rebuild, or is this a smaller problem? Fluid has been changed twice, and was done at 55K...69K on truck now ('01 5.3 4WD, 4L60E) and fluid is still bright red with no burnt smell whatsever. Inspection is due this month and I can't pass w/ this CEL popping on. Thanks guys...
