Default Converter size??

Whats the difference between a 10.5" and a 9.5" converter when they are both set at the same stall speed? Also, what is the benefit of a MULTI DISC setup in the lockup converters?

Im gonna be getting a new tranny/TC soon, and I am trying to figure out what everthing does. Thanks

My experience has been that the smaller the converter the "looser" it is.

Define LOOSE? I know that theres a "feel" to the term. does that mean not predictable?

No, its kind of hard to explain unless you are familiar with converters. Say you have 2 3000rpm stall converters in the same vehicle with the same mods. (All things equal besides the 2 converters) Although they both may flash to 3000 rpm the smaller one may take more throttle to get it moving (street driving) than the larger dia. converter. Again I am no expert on converters but I have had my fair share of experience with them.
Something else to keep in mind, with the larger diameter converter although it is advertised as 3000 rpm it may not actually flash that high where as the smaller diameter should.

Ok, so, the sort version is that a 3000 stall 10.5" tc will consistantly respond like a 2800, and a 3000 stall 9.5" will act like a 3000 stall MOST of the time, and sometimes like a 3200?

basically the 9.5" will kill your towing and send your trans temps through the roof. the 10.5 will be easier to drive around town. the multidisc lockup will help keep your highway mileage the same.
