Default Clunk when moving starting from a stop

Recently my truck has developed a soft clunk when moving out from a stop. It feels like there is some driveline slop being taken up. I got down under the truck and tried to rotate the driveshaft. No freeplay there. I heard a while back about something with a slip yoke problem, but thought that was for the 4X4 guys.

But...

The carrier bearing rubber support seems to move around a little bit. Would it seem logical that the rubber support is letting the driveshaft "wrap up". And that is the clunk?

Any ideas?

Could be a little axle wrap. Have you modified the rear springs at all? Mine started doing it bad when I took the overload leaves out. If that isn't it try checking the u-bolts and make sure they're tightened to spec.

Also check to see if the little pad is on the end of the short leaf spring. If it isnt, axle wrap will cause the springs to contact while taking off, causing a clunk sound.

I had the same problem. If you will drop your driveshaft and put some good grease on the transmission splines. The clunck is actually the drive shaft catching on the splines.

My truck is stock. I'll take a look at the spring pads though, the u-bolts too.

I think this weekend I'll change my transmission fluid and filter. When that is going on I'll try the grease on the splines. I know I've heard about that before, just thought it was 4WD guys only.

My old 99' had this same problem. Took it to the dealership under warrenty and they replaced the slip yoke with the nickel coated version and it fixed it. I sold the truck before I got a chance to put more miles on it so I don't know if it would come back or not.

Depends if you still have warranty on it. Mine had about 93,000 miles and I had a extended warranty and was good to go.

I called the dealer today. Told a service writer what was going on. They seem up to at least telling me for sure if it is the slip yoke. Chevy might even take care of it. We'll see on monday.

Thanks for all the help.
