Default Built 4L60E arrived, good deal??

I bought a tranny from "Mad Dog" Transmissions
What I got was a "built" 4L60E for my 02 Tahoe containing:
Mad Dog Reprogramming update kit ( )
Mad Dog shift kit (I guess like a trans go or something?)
Raybestoes Z-Pak with 13 clutches (replaces factory 5 clutches in the 3-4 drum)
All high temp, high energy clutches throughout the rest of the unit
All new steels, bands, bushings and rings
A .500 boost valve
10 vane pump rotor
4140 hardened pump rings
TEFLON pump bushing
29 element sprag
Sonnax WOT valve
Oversized hardened sun shell
Hardened input shaft and drums
5 pinion planetary gear
High temp pro series raybestoes kevlar band
Corvette servo
1-2 and 3-4 accumulators are blocked off
END>
So, is all that, with a HD TC with a 2000rpm stall and a tranny cooler, shipped to my door step worth the $1700 I spent?

Everywhere else I looked and people I asked were telling me $2,000 or $3K for a built 4l60E. This guy warranties it for 1 year, unlimited miles. I told him it was backing up to a Radix and he said this thing is rated at 700hp/tq. He pretty much told me I wouldn't be breaking this thing with my 5.3L. That is why I listed all the parts, I was looking for a transmission builder to tell me if I got what I paid for or not. It's still on the pallet, I can still return it if I need to. But my stock trans has 65,000 miles on it so I didn't figure it would last under the strain of a supercharger. I have a lead foot.

I talked to Maddog Lou personally and also had a buddy who knows his stuff talk to him. My buddy said Lou was pretty knowledgable and seemed to no his Sh*t. I was just putting it out in the forum for more opinions. :-) I don't know a sun plate from a hot plate or a hard shell from a sea shell.

Once I get the radix install finished, the tranny will go in (free time and energy dependent). Hopefully in a week or 2. I'll post when it goes in and let you know if it runs smooth.

After watching Chuck (formerly of FLP) rebuild mine, I now understand the costs involved. A proper tranny build takes a fairly significant amount of time. After watching Chuck, I have an even better understanding of his capabilities.

To give you a comparison....one of my biggest customers is the company that has the GM SERTA contract. Every replacement 4L60E and 4L80E that GM sells goes through them. They have quite an assembly line going and it is quite a mass production. Seeing the difference between what they do and what Chuck does is like night and day. Just comparing the assembly time is like night and day. Put it this way, I could have got a SERTA without the nationwide warranty for $500 through my customer but I chose to have Chuck build mine because I wanted the quality. He took many hours to make sure it was done correctly. Then he spins it up on his VERY EXPENSIVE tranny dyno and puts it through it's paces before he ships them. This thing is impressive. Runs up the rpms, bangs through the gears, puts a big load on the output while working through gears, etc. After 30 minutes of watching him put my tranny through it's paces, I was confident it was perfect prior to putting it back in my truck.

Bottom line, I would prefer a custom build to a mass produced ANY DAY.

Regarding your specific deal, it sounds like you got a fairly good deal assuming it holds up. I paid over 2K for my rebuild including a nice Vigilante torque converter.
