last night i was headed home when i lost my passenger side axle. the axle broke, and tire and axle ended up in a tree. my brake is pretty much destroyed. tire flew up and hit and dented my fender.

Ok. I am sorry for your loss but let me just say that this is ****** awesome LOL How often do you see this LMAO! The tree thing just tops it off. That sucks.

Anyways, did the whole dang axle tube come out or did it snap in half? Only way I could see this happening is if the C-bracket that holds the axle in broke.....any more info?

Ok, excuse my above post. I'd be shitting my pants if that happened to me.

 

Actually, the c-clip only holds about a 1/2" of the inner most part of the axle before the splines even start. Basically the axle can break anywhere and this can happen. The c-clip and rest of the axle is probably still intact.

C-clip eliminators actually hold the axle out in the housing end. So if the axle breaks anywhere inside the housing, it will not allow it to come apart like this.

 

i feel your pain. i've broke two axles in the hoe. which is why i went back to AWD. but my twin piston calipers held my tire on. it didn't like it but it held. i can't believe in flew up in a tree though, thats nutts.

 

Ouch man. I had a simular experience 12 years ago when I was practice launching my 70swb 1/2 ton. The 377 nitrous motor and trans braked th400 had a disagreement with the 12 bolt in it, causing a snapped axle shaft and what happened to you.
