It's actually a roller-clutch in the overdrive, not technically a sprag. The problem with pre-2001 4L80-E overdrive roller clutches is that the rollers tend to skew minimizing their contact which causes the rollers to wear unevenly. They eventually let go. For the 2001 model year the entire assembly was redesigned with rollers captive in little shoes that keep them square. This assembly is available as a retrofit into all older model 4L80-E transmissions. Unfortunately, it is not inexpensive.

Im back with the same unit, same case. It is still vac modulated. He said too many tuners get too carried away with the shift pressures....
Im hoping this was from a bad rebuild. I mean it lasted two days, not much WOT behind a turbo 4.8L....
