Default AWD trans

Is the output shaft for a AWD the same as a 4wd? Or do I need a real 4wd trans to work with my transfer case?

So a 4L65E from an SS will bolt right in to a 4x4 Silverado?

Sweet thanks. Are there any external ways to tell the difference? I don't want to get screwed and get a 1/2 ton 4x4 trans. I want to get the 4l65. I guess it would say 4l65e where mine says 4l60e??
