Anyone cut a long bed frame to a short bed?

Default Anyone cut a long bed frame to a short bed?

Has anyone shortened a long bed frame down to fit a short bed?

Found a single cab long bed truck pretty damn cheap and buddy found a truck I can get a straight bed off of and any donor parts that ill need..

Yeah, I did mine. Was a pretty easy task overall. The rear section of the frame slips into the front half and is welded around the edge. I cut out the factory welds, slid the rear frame section out, chopped off some of the front frame, slid the rear section back in and welded it up.

Here is before:



During: Notice how all the rear support braces and main suspension components are located on the rear frame section. That all just gets moved forward.



And after:


In the last pic you can see I removed the front spring bracket. After this pic, I moved the bracket forward on the frame about a foot (and up as far as I could to lower the rear more).

I had to adjust the front bed mount tabs a couple of inches. Brake lines and emergency brake cables were too long afterward, but that was an easy fix. Spare factory tank from a shortbed truck strapped right in.
