Default 700-r4 BUILD!!

Hey guys...

If you havent seen my motor post!! Im building a motor that is goingn to hold around 20+ psi in a 1983 silverado.

The motor is a sbc 350...

Now.. Im going to need to build the trans to hold the power...

I have never dealt with an older transmission!!

I am used to the 4l60e...

What is a good build sheet that I would need to get to build i t right!!

Thanks

In my personal experience, the only way a 700r4 will hold up to any real power is to make it reverse manual valvebody.

I have a 700r4 ( rmvb) in my 99 silverado ( procharged @ 15lbs boost). Retaining the fully automatic features, it would start slipping about 2000-2500 miles. Now that it's RM, I haven't had a problem yet ( around 10k on it and 20 track passes....12.10-12.40 neighborhood). I have alto reds for 1st and 2nd and the Z-Pak for 3/4. Everything else is the standard for 4l60/e's: sunshell, hardened input ( and output if you can find one), hardened reaction carrier shell, 5-pinion planetaries, hardened ( 300m) band pin, NO thrust washers ( all torrington bearings), billet servos for 2nd and 4th, etc.

What are your intentions for this truck? Street/Drag and don't care about economy, or do you want an economy car.

exactly, a built 400 turbo will handle anything... the 700r4 is the weakest pre-4l60e transmission you can get

A built 400 is the way to go, and you also have more part choices with the 400.

TH400's are also very easy to rebuild. You can do it with normal tools and a set of feeler guages.
I rebuilt the one in our Demolition Derby '79 Cadillac here at work. It was easy as I've abused the hell out of it since.
