Default 60E to 80E swap question

I am looking to do an 80E swap in my 03 RCSB. I was wondering what year trans I need to be looking for? I have one out of a 95 3/4 ton that I can get for cheap that is guaranteed to run. I am goin to freshen it up with a shift kit and whatever else is a weak point on these. Any input is appreciated.

No, 99+ is when they got the additional hole in the bellhousing to mate to the LS engine. Anything 93-ish+ will work. Over the years changes were made. Like stated 99+ got the extra bolt, 05+ had some difference in oiling on the inside. I know Vince B made a post one time covering all these in GREAT detail, I can't find it right now though.

Yeah I know I skimmed over it at some point but I can't find it now. A trans guy told me that I needed an 03 and up because of the electrical plugs but I'm pretty sure this is bs. I would say 99+ for sure, but I want a definite answer as to what I need before I purchase.

I believe the 91-93 were Problematic due to internal Oiling problems. The 94-95 units made some changes but still had the oiling lines close together like on the 4L60E. 96- up had some additional improvements and revised oiling.

Around 99 they started adding the additional 12 O'clock hole for the LS series engines. It's not necessary as several people have proven them to work well over 1000HP without the use of the top bolt hole on the later units.

Will see if Vince can Explain what works and why. I wanna say 96- up is ok.

In the past he said 99-00 units.

Here is a good recommendation on installing your shift kit. The Dual feed mod

Mine is out of a 95 1ton.. You have to cut the ears off on one side.. other than that its works just fine.. Lines match right up just like the 4l60e..On the converter go with an FTI. I cut a 1.62 in a 4920lb ext cab with a 3400 converter..

Take the rebuild advice in the post .I asked my builder what he would recommend and he told me just about everything in the post including removing the seal on the drum to help with the dual feed
