Default 5" rear drop Q's

I'm planning on dropping my truck, and as of now I'm just sporting some 2" drop shackles. I don't want to go 4" in the front, because I still want to be able to clear road hazards. I was thinking of just going 2" in the front via some McG's spindles. My question is about the back.

Most go with 4" in the back with the corresponding 2" front drop. But I don't think my truck will sit level with just 4" out back. It doesn't sit level now with the shackles. What's the best way to get 5" in the rear? I know hangers will get me down 4", but where does the other inch come from? I don't want to run a flip kit, as that would take me down 6". I'd really like to keep the factory springs if at all possible. How are ya'll gettin' down 5"?

Leaf springs as far as I know(3" leafs and 2" shackles) OR..... you could prolly get away with your 4" shckl and hngr kit and then removing the overload leaf on you leaf spring pack?? I dont condone doing that but I think it would work.

You could do a flip kit with an add-a-leaf to get 5 inches also. You'd also have to do a c-notch.

I figured I'd have to do a c-notch with a 5" drop. I talked to a local spring shop here, and they said they could re-arch my factory springs to provide a 1" drop. That combined with the shackles and hangers would work, but I'm not sure how it will ride, and what the load capacity of the springs will be.

Man I had the same question about the 5in rear drop. I posted my question on Fullsize.com and they said anything under 4in drop requires a C-notch. But I was going to go with belltech 3in leaf spring drop and 2in shackles to complete the 5in rear drop. They also told me 4/6 is a great drop and dont worry about anything a C-notch is really relieable with the doestch drop shocks. Im going with the DJM 4/6 drop and the doestch shocks. Just go with the 4/6 man it aint that much difference.

If you de arch your springs its hard to say how it will ride or tow. I would go ahead and do the 4/6 also, that is if you still have your oem shackles and hangers?? cuz you will need to put those back in.

If you do go with that 5" I would have you pull out your overload leaf before heating them up and dearching them.

all i have to say about this one is that a 4" 6" is way to low, unless you get that aftermarket crossmember. mine was beaten up bad. But I could see the take on these guys with the 4" 6". I think I told you, but I ended putting some gabriel air shocks in the back to help lift it a little and I also put some spacer up front. I will tell you the ride is awsome it is stiff as hell but yet rides like a lexus. Actually it brought back that truck feeling ride. Say when and we will tear that bastard apart.

I have to agree, I DO NOT want to go 4" in the front. I've heard from too many AZ boys that its just too low for our roads here. 3" is the lowest I would consider, but I want to do 2" first and see if I like it. My concern is just getting the truck to sit level. I'm going to take some detailed measurements this weekend and see if a 5" drop is worth the effort.

I don't know when I'm going to tear into it, as I'm still doing reasearch, but it'll be soon.....I hope!

Okay, so I took some measurements, and its not as bad as it seems. I have a wicked ability to tell if something is slightly crooked from a mile away. My truck doesn't sit perfectly level, and I can blatantly see that, but the tape measure doesn't lie so its not that bad.

The back is a 1/8" higher on one side and 1/4" higher on the other side. Plus my lean isn't nearly as bad as others have reported. I'm going to forgo the 5" drop in favor of the classical 4". It will definaley sag in the rear with a full 5". As usual, thanks for everyone's help!
