I've been running Merc V because it's free and I change the fluid extremely often, but back when I was having to buy it, I ran the cheap-o store brand Dex III. Never had a lube related issue with either.

I was using this fluid too, i used it only to flush the crap out of my old trans when I installed the hd2. I never got to put in my dex 6

To the builders:

Not questioning why you say to use dex 3 but what are the advantages over dex 6? is dex 6 too slippery because it is synthetic like synthetic is too slippery in truetrac rearends? I have already purchased dex 6 for my build. should I return it for dex 3 or is it not that big of a deal?

thanks

I had heard from pete at hughs performance that in his experience, synthetic fluid is grest for the clutched but is really hard on moving parts. Usually resulting in brinneling, then damage.

An old GM tech told me his opinion on Dex 6 is that it doesn't have the viscosity to lubricate properly in older transmissions. He said their is a reason why they say to use Dex 3 in the 07 classic and older transfer cases for one example.

FWIW I put a bottle of Lucas additive in mine along with Dex 6 while I had it on the bench installing the shift kit. It never gave any problems but it was only seeing 400 hp at most.
