Default 4L80E crank spacer (on crank side or TC side)

I have a 4L80E mounted up behind a 6.0L with a 6.0L flexplate and mounted the crank spacer before the flexplate. I know this has been gone over in other posts but it still doesn't add up to me. I looked at the pictures on the "if you are thinking about a 6.0 swap look here" where it shows the longer crank sticking out from the back of the block and it seems like if you were trying to replicate that you would just stick the spacer on to make it work for the 4L80E. If the 99 and 00 6.0L's can be used as is wouldn't that be the same thing as what I did. But then I was looking online and read what it says on the transmissioncenter website, and it clearly says put on after flywheel. I know I'm wrong but why?

the pics below relate to what I'm talking about

it goes on after the flywheel, just like the picture. it is designed to lengthen the crank to support the converter hub. if you put it in between the crank and flexplate then you better be using the old 6.0 flexplate(the 6.0 that already had the long crank), otherwise your starter won't reach the flexplate.

Alright there's the missing peice in my head. The flexplate was different than the stock late model flexplate I have. So the old 6.0L block flexplate would bend into the motor side to reach the starter. OK....time to pull that tranny I guess. Thanks for the peace of mind before I did though.

Default what the *%$#*

I removed the transmission today, took me the whole day because a TC bolt was stripped. I took the flywheel off, pressed the spacer off of it, and put everything on the correct way (flywheel, then the spacer facing the transmission. Only now the starter is touching the flexplate. Can anyone explain this one to me

Looks to me like you have a old flex plate and a new motor. If that's the case, you had it right the first time

Yep, one for the short crank and one for the long crank.

So I could have kept it the way I had it and drank beer all day in the sun instead of killing myself removing this transmission?

has anyone done it this way? With the spacer on the other side, with the newer style converter, and flat flex plate like I used? Should I get the right flex plate (with the bend toward the converter) because I have the newer torque converter or does that even make a difference?

Or does it equate to exactly the same distace/spacing as the newer setup? That way I could keep my flexplate.
