Please help. Keep flexplate or get rounded one?

The way you had it will work fine. Or you can get a newer flex plate and put the spacer on the back side of it. Both ways will work. Just as long as the converter can fully seat in the trans and pulls up to the flex plate about an 1/8" or so when motor and trans are assembled. The converter should be able to spin freely before you bolt it to the flex plate.

OK, here we go again. I'm going to go with what I had and see what happens.

Should I flush the torque converter with ATF, or do something with the tranny still out? I'm just trying to justify this mess.

I looked at the pictures on the "if you are thinking about a 6.0 swap look here" where it shows the longer crank sticking out from the back of the block and it seems like if you were trying to replicate that you would just stick the spacer on to make it work for the 4L80E. If the 99 and 00 6.0L's can be used as is wouldn't that be the same thing as what I did. But then I was looking online and read what it says on the transmissioncenter website, and it clearly says put on after flywheel. I know I'm wrong but why?

the pics below relate to what I'm talking about
What did you do to fix you issue? I know this is an old board, but I have the same problem. Starter gears to far from flex plate ring gears. Same motor, trans, flex plate and spacer part number as you described here. Doesn’t look like moving the spacer to the torque converter side will work either. Is there another flex plate for the 4l80e with a dish?
