Default 4l80e AN cooler lines

Need upgrade to a proper trans cooler and lines (still running factory).

I'm planning to use these fittings on the case

.

They have both -6 and -8 AN size. Is -6 AN adequate? Or do we get more flow and thus better cooling with the -8 AN?

Also, are they any premade braided AN hose kits out there that would be of proper length so I dont have to fuss around with doing the hoses myself?

Finally, is there typically enough clearance to get away without using a 45* or 90* fitting off the transmission case to get the hoses to clear the tranny tunnel?

Thanks

I got -6 for mine... I ran -6 in my camaro, th400/4,000 stall setup and it stayed cold! shouldn't be an issue.

I doubt you'll find an off the shelf hose kit

Probably will need 90 fittings to clear tunnel. It's pretty tight under there.

Kurt (twolow02fransen) has AN fittings and braided steel lines on his 60e and he's about to swap to the 80e. He likes them much better than factory lines. Hopefully he'll chime in.

6AN seems to be the norm, that's what I got. Also make sure you get the correct fittings for your year of 80E! Those in the picture are for the later years with one port at the front and the other in the middle. If both of your ports are at the front then you need different fittings.

I just bought some 90deg fittings and 25' of stainless braided line, should be enough.

I got mine off ebay, just type in "-6 an 4l80e" and they come right up... $20 with I think $3 shipping and they were at my house on the 2nd day from Florida to Texas.

Ok. Got those AN fittings for the case. The Trucool 40k install thread seems to detail all the other needed supplies, not to bad.

I also use the -6AN line without any issues. I also used the 90 degree end that screwed directly onto the adapter you ahve pictured above. I will never mess with hard lines again. This was the proper way to do it for sure.

The Tru-cool 40K uses 5/8" inverted flare fittings. It's very easy to find 6AN to 5/8 inverted flare adapters.
