I assume you want to run a shifter on the floor correct?

You could always just run the shifter on the column like the normal auto truck do. But I understand why you wouldnt.

You may have to cut a new hole, but the new hole or using the existing hole really shouldnt be too much of an issue. If you run a floor shifter, you can mount it anywhere, you just run a cable from the shifter to the trans, there isnt a lever that goes to the trans. You just need a small hole to feed the shifter cable thru the floorboards.

The trans shpuld bolt right up to the engine, you will probably need a harness for the trans.

You are in the perfect spot to install a 1993-1997 Camaro/Firebird 6 speed. That would probably be easier than a 4l60e, at least wiring wise. The T56 will bolt right on to the engine.

You will need a wiring harness for the 4l60e at least, then you will need to reflash the PCM with an auto trans tune. The 60e is shifted electronically.

If you want a full manual shift trans, a 700 r4 would work minus all the electronic BS. You would need to wire a TCC switch to lock the TCC, but that is easy, then install a full manual valvebody.

A good person to ask would be the guys at FLP Transmissions, they just started as sponsors of this site.

The T-56 should have an electronuc speedo output, the plugs between your truck and the Camaro "should" be the same because the 4l60e is also used in the Camaro.
The 4l60e and the T-56 are the exact same length, they even use the same output shaft and yoke.

http://www.flp2win.com/cart/transmission.php

I can see a T-56 swap being the easiest swap, just because you only need the speed sensor output for use in your truck. Your trucks PCM is allready tuned for a manual trans also.

The T56 has a 2.66:1 1st gear and a 1:1 4th gear, a 075:1 5th and a .5:1 6th, the 5th and 6th gears are both OD gears, a set on 4.10's or 4.56's would would nicely in a pickup. The 94-97 T56 are rated for 400 lbft of torque, they are much stronger than a 4l60e for sure. The 1993 T56 was weaker and only rated at 350 lb/ft of torque. You have to use a T56 from a 93-97 Camaro or Fbird, the 1998 and newer cars used the :S1 and those trans wont bolt onto your engine.

Maybe start another thread asking about a T56 swap into a 1996 pickup??
peace.

Billy Grahams Camaro and Firebird salvage would also be good guy to call for some info, and to also get a T56 withthe clutch and everything. http://www.billygrahamscamaro.com/pages/1/index.htm

peace
