Yeah you can take the spacer out of the 1-2 accumulator. Make sure to get a new hardened separator plate and drill the holes with the smallest drill bit. Sometimes the factory separator plate gets pretty warn out.

I would probably look to see if you have the 1-2 accumulator valve and sleeve installed the correct way. It is easy to flip it when you install the sleeve in the bore. By doing this you will have a hard 1-2 and 3-4 shift. I would recommend that you drill the seperator plate to .082. On the 1-2 accumulator spacer adjustment. With a late housing you will need to use one shim otherwise the spring seat will not be properly supported. On the early housing you can get away without any washers. This is because there is enough surface area to support the gold spring seat supplied in the hd-2 kit. Good luck with the build. Vince

The late housing will have an 8 digit production number on it while the early housing has a 7 digit number on it. The issue with the late housing and not using any washers is the gold spring seat is only supported properly. With using this housing the inner diameter where the pin is located is the only part to support this piece. IMO you need to the outer diameter to be supported otherwise the gold spring seat will bend and possibly cause a failure. Just a couple other things to add here for you. Make sure that the 1-2 accumulator valve is not sticking and also use the red red accumulator spring despite the directions. This might help detune your hard shift. You could always return the 1-2 accumulator springs back to stock as well. Hope this helps. Vince

Vince is correct that is what I had to do, return the 1-2 accumulator back to the stock setup and I did use a new pin and new aluminum accumulator and that soften my shift back to what I liked and still firm as well.
