Default 4L60E questions... HELP

I'm doin a LS1 Swap in my 99 Silverado that has a Vortec 4.8. How do I know what transmission is in it now? The LS1 has a 4L60E transmission will that hook up to my driveshaft? And what is the difference between the 4L60 and the 4l60E?

i agree with nonnieselman, the tailshafts will probably be different. about the difference between 4l60 and 4l60e-i had the same question when i had my 93 silverado-i was told they are all 4l60e's. i think the e just distinguishes it as an electrically controlled tranny as opossed to the 700r4(all mechanical)that it replaced mid year of 93 in pickups...but i am often wrong

you are correct the 4L60E is the electronic version of the 700R4(4L60) It is GM's name for the transmission instead of the aftermarket like the 700. The tailhousing that is from the F-body's has 2 or 3 holes to mount the torque arm the truck tailhousings are just basicaly like a funnel with a hole for the speed sensor. I believe the 2wd output shaft is the same if it is in a car or a truck but you might have to check that.

You're right the e just means it an electronic 700r4. But, I thought the 700r4 was a 3 speed where the 60e had overdrive. I cant remember.
