4l60e Question
#1
Will they really hold up. I see on here some guys build them and they hold up and then some guys have trouble with them. Are these transmission really that bad cause I would prefer to build mine but don't really want to build two transmission. So what you guys think.

Post up a little more info about your current setup and you'll get some better answers but GENERALLY speaking if you stay with stock type hp and tires and leave tq management alone and do a shift kit and bigger cooler it will probably be ok but if you want to add hp mods or run big heavy tires and wheels or race or just generally drive the truck hard they dont seem to last as long...either way make sure your rebuild includes an upgrade to the sun shell and 3-4 clutches...those are the 2 common failures even on stock trucks.

Have a 4.8 going cam plus turbo but want to beef up the trans but dont really want to swap to a 80vet if dont really need to. Want to try and get 600hp to the wheel. So guess my question is the 60car really that bad or guy that been getting them built really not telling the builder there true goals and getting a weaker trans cause im seeing 60su taking some real power.

imho, 600hp and boost is a deadly combo for your 60, I would highly recommend you go 80 now, i know you dont want to but you will be money ahead in the end. The car guys have better luck with they're 60s because of the weight difference 3500lb car vs 5500lb truck...either way good luck, you're gonna love that turbo!!

I got almost 4 years out of my first one, then the second had to be rebuilt 3 times in a year. The third time was a charm and has been running 2 years now. I am staying with the 4l60e because of the weight savings and me being so close to running a ten second 1/4

Skeet has been running a 4L60e for over 4 years (from Performa Built I think) with hundreds of runs and still hanging in there. Can't ask for any better than that. My next tranny will be from them ( if I am right on the name).

Reg cab, extended or crew cab? 2wd or 4x4? Any idea what the truck weighs? I'm running a performabuilt level 3 4l65e. I'm at about 420 to the wheels and weigh 5300lbs. I plan on throwing some boost at it soon. Hoping for at least mid 500 HP and low 12s in the 1/4 mile.

yes i am she now resides behind a nitrous fed 408 ! looking at very low 10s on a 100 shot
we'll find out this weekend! wanna get up to a 200 shot off the plate tuned and tweaked before we start on the the direct port tuning! im close to F-Body weight at 3806 empty 4016 with me in it!! weight makes a difference along with height of a vechicle when deciding on transmission, now if i had a crewcab and putting down say over 500 rwhp i would really think hard about going 80E. but as of now the performabuilt trans has served me well!! am very pleased with it but also in the same sense i took alot of precautions in stabling the trans under full load, i think it was cody a few years back at ls1truck shootout that asked me if the 4 link is keeping the 60E alive, i personally think it is, reason being it keeps the driveline tight and stable at full throttle. my setup has also been degreed in from engine to trans to rearend! pinion angle dead on blah blah blah!! one thing we dont want the differential to do is float ^ or down during WOT.
