So, I found out my newer magnaflow Y pipe won't let me get off the trans pan without unbolting the Y pipe. In the process of attempting to get off the pan I proceeded to break off the black plastic clip of the part circled in the pic. What is this part called? Also how do I remove it, do i press and twist the spring clip or yank it out? Thanks

 

At the top of the circle you can see the little clip that is in the slot in the valvebody. Pull that clip out and the whole solenoid will come out.

 

So is it called the transmission shift solenoid? Are both of them the same? I am nervous that I damaged the other one trying to wedge the pan off. I think I will just replace them both. Thanks for the help!

 

Yes that is a shift solenoid and both of them are the same part. Just pull the clip straight out to remove the solenoid. Keep in mind to old the solenoid while removing the clip. The 1-2 shift valve has a spring behind it and it will shoot the parts out of the bore if you don't hold the solenoid. The other solenoid doesn't have a spring behind the 2-3 shift valves so it will not have tension like the 1-2. Just to give you a heads up.

Make sure to run the ac delco or spx filter, I think I saw somewhere that the cheaper parts store brand filters dont flow as well or have a tendency to collapse ...aslo depending on the year of the trans put the tcc code 1870 valve in and the converter will lock up firmer and help everything run cooler.

I put in a NAPA filter kit. Looks like a decent filter. Came with a nice rubber gasket instead of the cheap cork ones. Trans has already been rebuilt and has PWM eliminated, vette servo, beast shell, and valve body mods. Thanks for the tips though!
