Its the stock open rear, and yea I was planning on doing a locker and girdle at the same time. And as for weight transfer I have been doing a lot of reading and what I have seen from guys at least around me are using v6 drop springs and a good shock up front and a good shock out back

Well im picking up some 4.10s off a buddy this weekend, so my question is do I need to buy an install kit or would it just be easier to have a shop install them?

The rear end needs to be set up properly. Do you have a set of dial gauges and know how to use em? Like everything else... You get what you pay for. If money is a thing then beg or borrow the right tools and learn to set it up yourself and let me know how that 4.10 works out for ya. I'm on the fence.

Agree.

I am of the opinion that my time is worth a lot, and dickering with rear end setup is one of those things that I could spend a couple hrs or a couple days trying to get right. I don't do them for a living, but I know a place or 15 that do for 80-120 bucks an hr

Most places I know will do it right in a few hrs.

But if you want to learn, then, like slow said...get the tools and do it right.

Well it has changed, I came across a buddy that has decided to go a different route with his car. Which means im getting his 4.56 gears and he is going to weld my axle tubs and spider gears for me. Hoping to get it all done in the next few weeks. Have to work around both of our schedules but I will let yall know how it turns out

you ever drive with a welded spider? Its not a lot of fun as a DD.

Its a load of fun....just a PITA when your going around the block to get a 6 pack...and in the rain...forget about it...

If this is what you want.. I recommend you do it right and get a spool...they're not expensive.

There's a reason welded spiders are called redneck lockers.

I would go with an eaton Posi. http://www.jegs.com/i/Eaton/362/1955...rentProductId=

It does a good job at spinning both wheels, but you can actually take corners without hopping and chirping all over the place

Chirp, chirp, chirp... I got my first exhibition of speed ticket in a 69 Camero RS/SS that had a welded rear end.. It was fun at the track but daily driving sucked it up! Do like Jordan says and take a closer look at a spool.. I have bought 4-5 Eaton posi units over the yrs.. Come highly recommended...

Yea I was wanting to do a spool but dont have the money for that right now. I have never drove but have been in cars with a welded diff. I also just drive the truck to class a few nights a week and to church. I do plan on redoing the rear maybe putting in a 9" next summer when I get back to work. Heck I think 4.56s will be more of a dd issue then a welded diff.

But I will definitely keep yalls opinions in mind and will let you guys know how I like it. He is only charging me $80 to install the gears properly, weld the tubes, and gears.
