Default 2wd ECSB 80e swappers or general knowledgers, ENTER please.

I'm doing a complete LQ4/80e swap over and I understand everything but the location of the cut on the crossmember and what exactly needs to be done to the DS.

How far back does the center section have to be moved from the front of the CM to the center bolt hole of the trans mount? I've read 6" but i want to be exactly sure as i'm going to try to do it at work tomorrow if i can. All i've found is for the 4wd which is shorter, like 3" or something.

Also, w/the DS. I've read in only 1 thread that the front shaft of my stock 2pc steel DS does not have to be cut/shortened but that the Neapco N3R-3-916x yoke and Precision Premium #534G u-joint just has to be mounted on it and re-balanced. Is this correct? The DIM of the slip yoke said something about being 7 1/2" long, that seems rather long to me. Does it have to atleast be shortened?

KySilverado's thread helped A LOT and so did a few random threads i've seen, but thats the only info i just can't seem to find. hopefully the yoke will be in tomorrow and i can have it modded saturday.

Thanks everyone, I'm hoping to button this up so I can join the club lol.

EDIT** another issue came up, posted further down with pics

Oh and just another random question, considering the 80e has a taller 1st gear what should I change my rear gear(3.73) to with my 32" tall tire?

Eventually I'll also change out my converter to a cicle D or something but thats down the road when i pay this swap off. lol

6.25"

GMRacer built my x-member and it's built like a brick house.

Driveshaft info sounds correct, those are the same parts in mine.

I used a long turbo 400 yoke, and cut off around 5/8ths of an inch. I also moved my hole back 6 inches.

Gotta remember that the crossmember bolt hole is about 1 inch in length. So the amount the crossmember center section is moved back doesn't have to be perfect.

Moved mine 6". And just add that yoke and there was no need to rebalance mine. And its been perfect.
And gears, going to 4.10's probably won't be worth it and you might not want to go all the way to 4.56. The stall will help the first gear the most. I still have a stock stall and 3.42 and its pretty slow.

holy sheet man, stock 80e stall, 3.42s and a 224/228 cam? That sounds.....unpleasant to drive.

i used the 1350 yoke that came with the trans... and i used a conversion U-joint.... no need to balance... everything worked perfect.. i made my own X-member out of the stock one....

I went with a 4.30.... and a 3600 (29.7 inch tire).... love it..... 4.10s would do ok... but with them big tires i would go at least 4.30... probably 4.56

well i drop to a stock wheel and tire size when i go to the track, lol. These are my cruisers, couldn't pass up the dealon them.

But I just came across another issue... atleast i hope its not. The Module on the side of the 80e seem to have an extra plug outlet than my old 60e

60e

80e

What do i do?
