Default 2-3 shift seems weak on 4L80E w/HD2

How does your 2-3 shift feel? Mine compared to the 1-2 and 3-4 seems sort of soft, similar to a stock shift but a little firmer then that. It never slips but it just doesn't feel the same. I did as the instructions said and left the reverse check ball out to feed both sides of the direct clutch. Is this just a side effect of doing that or is this just my transmission that is doing this? Its not causing a problem, it just feels odd when all other shifts are quick and firm. At WOT it doesn't seem to be quite so bad. It feels like it starts to apply kind of slow and then all of the sudden it hits 3rd fully and gives a nice little nudge forward. What do you think?

Ok so its not just my transmission. It had 133,000 miles on it and was supposed to be in good working condition when disconnected from the mighty 6.5 TD with a rod hanging out the side. So this is good to know I guess. Just need to play around with the line pressures some more.

The 80s shift kinda lazy... Even with a shift kit, they still need some solid tuning to get them to shift more acceptably.

What size did you drill the holes in the separator plate? What does all you pressure tables look like?

It was whatever transgo recommended for the average driver. I found the shift pressure tables and added 20 psi on the 2-3. Seems better but I also cut my mufflers off today and haven't got their replacement put in yet so it was a little too loud running around with basically open headers to try the WOT shifting out.

I was recommende to have the separator plate drilled .085 1-2, and .090 for 2-3 and 3-4

Is this different than Transgo recommends in their kit? If so why is this better?

I've been thinking of going back in the trans to drill the 2-3 a little larger. It's a good shift, just not quite as firm as the 1-2 even after some tuning.
