Will a 14 bolt axn axle with drums, accept the disc brakes from my 04 Silverado? holy beejesus the salvage yards are proud of these rears!!

 

It will, they will just be clocked different. The brake flanges run parallel to the pinion on a Drum brake rear end. On a Disc brake rear end there clocked at a 45 degree angle in relation to the pinion.

To anybody who has completed and driven a 14 bolt swap: did you notice and ill effects that needed to be addressed ? Ie did the extra weight effect any handling characteristics ? Can the larger gears be felt as far as rotational losses ?

Heavier duty leaf springs needed etc ?

 

Only think I noticed was a little easier to slide the *** end out on corners. Stock 1/2 ton leafs under my truck. No real ill affects. I noticed more of a drive-train loss/feeling from the 4l80e than anything else. 3.42's in a 14 bolt suck though, I have a set of 4.10's ready to swap in.
