Default 05+ vs. 01 Front Brake Calipers

So it seems that stock 05+ brake calipers are an upgrade for 01 Silverados. Is that because the 05+ have 13" rotors while the 01 are 12" rotors? Or are the calipers themselves better somehow?

I am putting on 14" Baer rotors and have the brackets for either the 05+ or the stock 01 calipers. Just curious if the calipers themselves are actually worth upgrading.

Thanks.

The upgrade is in the size of the rotor as you described. Calipers are the same. It is the bracket that is different.

Actually the calipers are not the same. They are different to a small degree. But the differences may just be in the mounting holes, the 05+ holes are wider apart. The overalll size appears the same however. I have 05 calipers ready to go on, 01 calipers are still on the truck so I can't directly compare yet. Im going to go ahead and use the 05 calipers, can't hurt I guess. Ill compare them and report back.

I would have done that for you except mine is in the body shop. I was hoping to do the upgrade and compare the parts. Unfortunately I have no control and I am at there mercy...

If you look up calipers for a 01 and 06 silverado you will get the same part number. You just need the correct bracket to match the rotor size.

They are not the same. On 05+ if there are drums in the rear then the front calipers are different. Dunno if any came with discs in the rear but if they did those might have the same front calipers as 01.

05 was the only year you could get Disc on the rear and that was only on the AWD SS all others had drums in the rear.
