Why plastic, primo?

 

No particular reason. I guess at that moment in time, I was envisioning a RCI and Jaz plastic tank. An aluminum tank would probably be more sturdy and easier to mount.

The tough part about putting the pumps inside the surge tank is mounting them and the fittings without compromising the seal of the tank since the pumps will need to be mounted to the wall. It's going to be pretty tight space wise to do a lot of work in a 1 or 2 gallon tank.

I'm going to stick with the external mounted pumps unless the noise drives me crazy. I thought I would be able to knock it out last weekend and post some pictures but my work schedule and the weather made sure that didn't happen.

yep, 10ga. I plan to run two relays (one for each pump) and a single ground wire out since its a much shorter distance, I shouldnt have any problems with wires melting or voltage drop.

The "Y" reducer is mounted up nice and high. Did you have to use a -6AN male to -6AN male coupler to connect it to the bulkhead fitting?

How much of that $20 a ft Gates hose did you have to pick up?

 

No, its a -8 female to two -6 females, so it fits directly on the bulkhead. I ended up getting two hoses and cutting them both to fit

 

I suggest that you replace those hose clamps with either crimp-on clamps (ear clamps), or the fancier screw clamps that are claimed to not cut through hoses. It took about a year for my Gates submersible hose to get soft enough to allow the clamp to cut through.

 

I didnt tighten them enough to cut into the hoses, the barb is doing most of the holding.

I never can find those clamps though.
