I finally resorted to this setup and it's been working flawlessly for two years so far. It's reliable, Very easy to work around and retains the oem test port and is incredibly stable.
Might be hard to see, but it's a braided -8an hose from an Inline Bosch 044 mounted to a surge tank. -8an 90* fed into a T-union on the passenger side rail. The union splits to -6 hose(slight S bend for injector/rail offset) to the regulator, -6 90* out the reg fastened directly to driver side rail... Return line comes out the bottom of the regulator. The key is to use O-ring fittings going into the rail ends and use "Swivel" fittings everywhere else.
There's Plenty of room for Autometer sending unit and FPSS out the gauge port on the back of the reg. with a relief valve T'd in. With it set up like this, I can drop pull the pump relay and just crack the threads loose on the Feed into the rail and have enough space to tilt the motor as far as I want to drop the trans in under 2 hours.
Any regulator mounted to firewall is eventually asking for trouble.

unded up mounting mine to the fire wall, cut out a piece of SS to make a bracket that fit over the existing grounding bolts . gave it a slight bend to keep the regulator upright and installed all the fittings and lines. working as it should now.
