Default what rpm to shift at

I was just pondering this...my 6L80E shifts st 5800 rpm.

I haven't had it on a dyno yet to see where its making power up there. But assuming its making power still at 6100rpm...can we keep bumping up the shift rpm.

Where is the safe limit?

Forged 370. 226/232. 578/.587 112+3 can
76mm. Meth. Ls7 lifters. Stock rockers.

I don't know where the best shift points are on the ls engines but I would say look up some dyno charts from similarly set-up trucks on here, and have it so your shift puts the bottom of your commanded gear right where the torque starts to ramp up?

Excellent idea! I'm gonna go look now.

I bought HP tuners pro and first and foremost we're trying to get the trans tune improved. I signed up on 6L80etuning.com and so far its been a great help. The fella who runs the site is working on my trans tune.

Hopefully I can get the 6L80 to last!

7500 @ 18 psi LOL Na.. You should be shifting that cam at no less then 6500, unless your runing a stock intake. Stock intake is about 6200ish before it falls off..

i would think torque at the bottom of the commanded gear would be more crucial than dragging out the previous gear, on a turbo setup tho, no? To an extent, anyways...

Which turbo do you have? The exhaust wheel will limit shift points on a 370 if its a smaller wheel.

I had a conversation about this with atomic. I would look at your turbo map to decide shift points. Keep your turbo in its efficiency the longest.

I agree with the comments about keeping your turbo on point. Based on that cam I would say that you could use a little more RPM, but if the turbo won't like it then it would be a huge step backwards... that beign said you should think about a different turbo if it wouldnt like it. That or a smaller cam to make more grunt and spool the turbo quicker.
