Default Specs to choose the right S480 on a 6L

ok. so Im putting 1 of these Detroit Diesel turbochargers on my Max 6.0. what is the specs that I need to look out for, as far as A/R etc?? as I have little to no turbo experience. I was told by Kyle don't go bigger than a 83mm. So Im not sure there either. I want the turbo to spool up quickly, but I also dont want the turbo to fall on its face or run out of steam, which I doubt with this big turbo... I will be limiting the engine to about 6500rpm so I want the turbo to pull throughout the top range. But also be in the sweet spot before the 6500 rpm if possible. That way I can enjoy the most of the daily driven, part throttle. spooling

I was planing on doing the T6 flange as its more suited towards a v8 engine. And gives me options to grow, when I decided to turn up the boost on a built engine. We are going with a T6 and 4" downpipe for sure. maybe 3"xovers depending on what Kyle recommends.

The L92 heads will be on the 6.0. so I need to know what specs for a S480 turbo. in a street driven Tahoe, that street races city and hwy. Need to make the right choice, as this turbo goes on like a 13L engine or something, I want it to run good on the 6.0.

I have seen flow charts where a 2.5 crossover is good to about 2k hp. Going big on the xover isn't really a good thing Just something to look at.

Funny you said, this, cause after some deep research yesterday, I was going to update that post. I may go with a 2" - 2.25" crossover max instead. With the 4" Down-pipe. Should spool the T6 up good, real good.

My goals will be 1000hp MAX... So Ive figured 2" is the best to accomplish that. While making the turbo happy pre turbo. Im going to see what Kyle can do for me.

But still need to figure a good A/R etc.

With the T6, your limited to a 1.10 a/r with the 83mm turbine and 1.32 a/r with the 96mm turbine. The bigger turbine will have more peak power, just will have a little more lag. A bit more stall on the converter can make of for that. For all out power, I'd just go with the bigger unit.

go with the big unit , i got the s480 with the billet wheel and race cover and with the 1.32 ar on the hwy its freakin' beast ! if you plan on launching it you will either need a big stall to get it spooled or a hit of n20 , or both

Nice info guys. What else besides the higher stall? To get into boost? Maybe some 3.23s? I think my cam should help it well to spool. Honestly I'm wanting to do a 2" crossover with the big boi 480 with 92mm. Should spool on demand. Seems like our crossovers make for the lag or slow spool.

Your going to need big cubic Inch ,good size stall or some n2o to spool that big s480 a smaller cross over isn't going to do it alone its a big turbo.

At what rpm will boost start on that setup?? approx

Not trying to work that hard to spool it. Would I be better off with a S475 in a T6 trim, and what MM and A/R ?? Will it spool better for the street and still pull hard to 6 k?

kinda comes down to s475 vs s480. lol

also, I would be happy with 800rwhp. Things break real fast after that, and I need to plant the power. Im really leaning the s475 for more FUN. I need FUN.

I wouldn't do 3.23s unless your gonna run a Th400 keep in mind you still want to be able to move out. Lots of success from guys like Mitch and others running 3.73s or 4.10s. These motors love rpm and are heavy bricks.
