Default What is the cost of going Turbo?

I have an 03 QC 4x4 Dodge Ram, with a weak 4.7. My plan is build a front mount turbo setup. I have tuning taken care of, I have a T-60 turbo, 38mm wastegate, blow off valve, and intercooler. I still need injectors, a 2 bar map sensor, and maybe a fuel pump. I will be doing all of the fab work myself, I also have a spare 4.7 for this build.

How do guys figure build cost?

Thanks.

A lot. Then some more. Rear end, Transmission, Engine, driveshaft, and thats just the stuff that will break once you go turbo.

figure up all the cost of parts and if you are going to install them or have them installed. Then add all of it up and take half of that cost and add it back in on top of your first figure, just for build cost! Then be ready to double that due to failure of related parts and you have yourself about 8-10k in a turbo kit!

I got to $4500 in my budget, with out adding a fuel pump/injectors or tuning software. I bet you will hit 6-8k...makes the TVS look alot better and easier

I was gonna say double your expected cost. That covers the dollars.

Time: multiple 2-3x how long u thought. By the time, it actually goes how u want, & u replace broken things, & whatever else u left out in your original estimate.

I've yet to do a turbo, but a motor swap from somethin that it was never intended is similiar. And other builds.
This truck, my idea of F/I is paying for just the unit is only a piece of the puzzle. If u can just stick to "plan" & not upgrade anything in the turbo kit, you'll come in at a somewhat reasonable tag. Upgrades, now the budget idea is out the window. Well...sky's the limit, or your credit cards.

Easily figure double what your parts cost by the time your running and all is well with the setup. A turbo 4.7 should be interesting though. Lots of small expenses that get overlooked in a turbo build that come back to bite you in the *** later.

Yep. I always said price everything out carefully and be generous when you're figuring how long it will take. Then double your cost estimate and triple the amount of time you calculated, and you might be close.

The medical bills alone will be a killer. It's expensive to treat the stuff that he'll catch from Dusty....
