Default what is best?? wrapping hotsection or ceramic coated?

Just wondering what will hold in the heat the best.. I don't have the ideal setup for boost, longtube headers are ceramic coated an the turbo is mounted under the bed.. currently have it wrapped but it is already starting to look like it is coming apart in areas

I prefer the fiberglass wrap for heat retention. BUT you have to worry about corrosion under it... So I wouldn't consider it a set it and forget it solution.

I just can't imagine the ceramic coating doing a whole lot for heat retention. Does look better though....

First, the typical ceramic coating is more like high temp paint -- it's even applied like paint, and is about the same thickness as paint. If you look at what the pros do, they use molten ceramics which are about 5x as thick as the typical coating.

Here's a link to Swaintech (Swain invented the molten ceramic process in the 1970s): http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=10296. Lots of information there about both kinds of ceramic.

Wrapping works (but not as well as molten), inside the constraints (the rust, rips, degradation over time, etc. -- many of which can be addressed by using a sealer on the pipes before putting on the wrap and then on the wrap after its applied).

I like the ceramics myself. I used performance coatings in Arlington for mine. The owner Mike is a real good guy to do business with.
