Default Under Truck (rear mount) Q's

Ok, so here is what I want to know... not speculation or assumptions, but facts and experience. How bad is the "lag" of an under truck turbo set-up... One thats set up custom made as far forward as possible after both banks merge?

Its hard to resist doing one since there is so much space under a truck, and avoid the under hood head etc. I know from the F-Body world that STS cars have a heck of a long way to run the length of the car, but on a truck it would seem the Turbo could be placed MUCH father forward, eliminating some of the worst parts of a "rear" mount set-up?

Input?... Give it to, uncensored. lol. Thanks!

No, its not so much a concern, just looking at the most build friendly way of doing it. However I'm not the least bit scared of building a top mount, Im simply a newb when it comes to what it takes to run a top mount. I built a truck manifold setup on my 98 Camaro SS with great success, but I knew I had to relocate the alt, notch the K-Member, etc etc etc... , so if all being equal, I just want the more "trouble free" build.

A big hangup for me is the scav pump.. Id much prefer to be top mount gravity drain.

I'm in for the answers. I don't have any experience with turbos but if you think about it, there is already pressure in the intake and exhaust tubing so when the turbo starts to spool, there will already be a charge there. Boost wouldn't have to be pushed all the way from the turbo to the intake. Thats just how I think about it but again I don't know if that's incorrect. Hopefully some experts chime in

Comp turbos should make rear mount setups a little easier. They require no oil.

Set up properly they have no more lag than a front mount. They do not make as much power, but if you are not looking for every last bit of power, they work great. With an oil less comp turbo the set up is less complicated.

Seems like you could mount it even closer since you can mount an oilless on any axis, no need to worry about those limitations now either.

Search low mount turbo we build some years back. It will give you lots if ideas and pics how to do it.
We are a dealer for comp. turbos.
The turbo costs more but you don't have to worry about oil pumps etc.
