Also, what size dual Magnaflows? Bumpers had a good suggestion if you are running any of their shorty cans.

Last piece, tailpipes? I'm running 3" downpipes > 3" X-pipe > dual 3" Random Technology 18" cans. It was a little loud in the cab but once I added dual 3" tailpipes to the rear bumper, it made it much quieter in the cab.

No cats. If I knew they would be a big improvement, I'd put 'em back. The Magnaflows are not the short ones. Case is maybe 24". Tail pipes are 3", out the back, and pointed down. I tried plugging the driver's side tail pipe and it wasn't much quieter.

I can see where adding cats would be an improvement, but I think it would still be too loud when towing.

Still leaning toward a set of stock type 3" in/out mufflers with electric cutouts in front of them. A Hobbs switch set at 4 to 5psi would make them open automatically anytime I got serious.

What opens the e cutouts? Gear motors or solenoids? Solenoids would be quick....gear motors maybe not so quick.

Are all of the e cutouts gear motor driven?

No, not all but most of the big name brands are, like DMH and Doug's. You should PM KBRacing, he's actually made a boost referenced cut-out before, he might be able to steer you in the right direction.

If you do an electric one that is going to be reliable it will not open very fast but then again I dont know that you would need the cutout all the way open to reap the benefits since some of the exhaust will still go through the mufflers and some will go out the cutout. With my old setup I ran the cutout half open all the time because I liked the sound and couldnt tell any SOTP difference between half and full open...

A pair of ebay 60 mm waste gates, with the lowest psi springs. Weld adapters into each down pipe. Tee the boost reference lines into a 12V vacuum switch, or some other kind of solenoid, and operate the solenoid with a WOT switch. That way, you could still go into boost when you want, but the waste gates wouldn't open until WOT.

That's my ultimate F/I dream exhaust.

Now that's interesting. To keep it simple, maybe just use a 5psi spring and reference to boost. Do those things leak or are they pretty well sealed?

That is a pretty neat idea actually!! I'm wondering what it will sound like though, if it sounds like what I think it's gonna sounds like than that might be a bit annoying but it'd still function well!

The only 60mm w'gate on EBAy at the moment is a genuine TIAL at almost $600 each. That's a pretty spicy meatball. They have some 50mm jobs at around $150.

EDIT: found some cheaper..
