TVS / Radix Belt Chirp
#1
Anyone have pointers on how to deal with super annoying belt chirp? I'm not actually getting any belt slip lol. Makes really good power (630/555 at 10psi). I thought it was the alternator cause when I spun the alt pulley by hand I could sort of hear a faint chirp, so I replaced it with a spare alternator I had that was quieter when I spun it. But same damn chirp. When I take a spray bottle with water and spray the belt with the engine running, the chirp goes away. I've also wire wheeled the crank, power steering, and alternator pullies. I also scuffed up the idler pullies. Then, I installed a HD 8-rib tensioner. Chirp maybe got worse!! I'm running a rather large 3.4" blower pulley. Should I get a griptec pulley in 3.4" size? Or is there anything else I can look at? The chirp is pretty embarassing.

Get a laser aligner and check the tensioner alignment.
Not a TVS but my KB started chirping/squealing after the 8-rib swap due to the tensioner not being perfectly square with all the other pullies thru its range of travel. That causes it to slide ~1mm across a smooth idler pulley causing the noise. Dependent on temperature, belt/pulley cleanliness, humidity, etc it can be anywhere from a faint chirp when the labeling passes the idler to a constant squeal. I have shimmed the tensioner bracket the best I can get it and have tried scuffing/polishing the idler and the belt with no lasting cure. I have just learned to deal with it.

No belt dressing, it’s only a temporary fix. Laser aligner, I had a chirp at one point till everything was lined up. They also make shims for the blower pulley that help align it if needed. I think Leftcoast32 sold them. On a lot of setups I’ve found you have to adjust the power steering pulley a hair. I always used a 1/2 breaker bar handle and put a little pressure on the belt when it’s running so I could see if moving the belt forward or back changed the sound. Just have to make sure it doesn’t catch obviously.

Check your water pump pulley, they get pissed about the tension. I had to weld my pulley onto the shaft bc they are pressed on. Mine was off just a little, then it let go and stranded my ***, my chirp was the pulley spinning on the shaft...
