Default turbo size

last week i was given a toyota ct26 turbo off of a supra from a guy i went to school with. now, will this be big enough for my 5.3 or will it be too big? i have no clue what the dimensions are on it, he just said do you want it, and i was like yea. so just curious to see what everybody on here thinks.

WAY too small. that turbo is too small for the 3.0l six it comes on.

now two of them might work ok for down low instant response, but i dont think it would do much for youover 5k rpm.

The common misconception that people have is that a turbo is the most expensive part of a turbo build.

It was free, sell it and make some money off of it. Don't expect because it was free to build a turbo kit for practically nothing. I'll have almost $3000 into my turbo setup itself which is DIRT cheap compared to many, and my turbo was only $412 of that.

If you want to build a turbo setup, then start doing some research and figure out what best suits you. If you are like me and want instant boost and to make close to 500/500 rwhp/twtq then go with something like a t60 with a small exhaust housing. If you want more then you'll have to decide what you want out of the kit and how big you want to go like Master Power's T70 turbo or bigger.

The best deal for a new turbo, perfect sized for a 5.3 front or remount is a Master Power T70. They are about $600 brand new!

I can sell you a hot parts kit (header, crossover, and down pipe) with that turbo for $2100 shipped. Then all you need is an intercooler, cold side piping. misc oil lines and fittings, fuel system, tune ect...

but just say that i did go ahead and use this turbo, when you say its too small what exactly do you mean? wudnt every lil bit of boost that it adds be that much better? what would be the downfall of using a turbo that is 'to small'?

It would be like trying to suck ice cream though a stirring straw...

You would be past the turbo rated flow capacity at about 2500 rpm.

its too small means that it wont flow enough exhaust through it. meaning it will only make tons of heat. its not as simple as "just adding boost". you need to add boost efficiently. that turbo was designed to be a small, street friendly unit for an engine HALF the size of yours. just because its free, doesnt mean you have to use it. OR lie i said, get another one, and go twins. unfortunately, you probably got if for free, because those turbos are nearly worthless, so you'd be lucky to get $50 to $100 for it.

Probably too big. I don't recall what the sizes are like, but that's a pretty big engine. It may depend on what year you're talking about also - I think some models have some complicated turbine stages for braking purposes.

If you're talking a stock 5.3, I would think this would be a pretty nice turbo provided that you are ok running the VNT in one position.
