Default turbo question

I was curious what is the difference between a diesel turbo and a gas turbo or is there any?

lil more info are you talking about just the 2 turbos in specific or the whole set up?

your a/r ratios will be significantly different because of the higher pressures in a diesel...some turbos are specifically built to be put on diesels, others on gas, but essentially they are the same.
Diesels have variable vane geometry, someone should put one of those on a gas engine.....

say like a turbo on a 6.5 diesel chevy not sure what kind it is. I know where i could get one cheap. the variable vane turbo didnt come out until 05 on lly and lbz chevy duramax.

the turbo is either a gm 4 or gm 8 whatever that means.

garrett makes the variable vane turbos. From what I hear they don't hold up well when you crank the boost up. That is just a rumor though.

Diesel turbos are designed to operate at much higher pressure ratios than most gas turbos. If you put the compressor maps for a 6.5 diesel turbo next to a turbo spec'd for a 6.5 gas engine you'll see.
