GOGO-C,
What size engine do you have? Do you know what size ex. A/R you have on there now?
he's having the same problems i had with my sts...i hated it when it rained and when on caliche roads and loved it when dry and on the hiway....swapped for a under the hood booster and been happy since....the truck billys building me right now is stock manifolds under hood turbo as well....

Why not run a snorkel? It puts the air filter as high if not higher than where the factory filter is. TGOZ71 was even using the stock air box for awhile. I just drove in the worst rain storm we had in over 20 years here with no issues. I've even driven my truck sidways down dirt roads with no problems. Sure the filter got dirty, but any filter would in that condition. If you don't get into high boost in the rain, then you won't suck in water. It's not a good idea anyway, because with wet roads and boost, you'll be sideways before you know it.

The only time I ever had water issue was when I washed it with a high pressure washer and sprayed right at the filter. That was before I relocated it up into the fenderwell. No problems now. I can even go through the car wash again.
As far as the tun goes, I've had the mail order tune from Allen for over a year now, on its 7th tweak from things I've upgraded along the way, it could be faster, but my tune is safe til I get a WB and HP Tuners to do some real world tweaks. I think I'll gain another 30-50hp after I really know what I'm doing. Maybe some day I may even get to the track.....

I just got back from beating the crap out of my truck and I can not believe some one can be un happy with one of these STS kits........
Here is a screen shot.

Note the MPH (21mph when I go WOT)
Then note when I get traction highlighted area(about 52 mph)
That is with all that timming advance I'm running
As you can tell I'm still tunning.....
Anyway, I really think you should find out if there is anything else that needs to be done to your truck to make it perform better. Or just sell it lol. I want the boost controler. lol

I live in Florida where it rains everyday...

I've only had ONE water issue (soaked the filter but didn't suck any h2o) when I was going slowly through a huge puddle and someone zipped around me a hit me with a boat wake lol.

I don't even run the filter sock, but STS has whole new filter setups now (nice "shield" and frontal cone filters). You could check that out.

Sounds like your performance issues are tune related. You'll have the same issues with a front mount...

5.3 . The exaust is wraped. I think it is a .96 a/r . This kit was purchased in 11- 04 one of the older kits. The only reason that I have not purchased a stall is that i dont want to sacrafice driveability or dependability. considering meth.

A higher stall torque converter would help, if you get on with a big enough lock-up clutch you can still tow. I've let a few people drive my truck. 1FUNZ71 said he could'nt even tell I had a aftermarket Torque converter......
It would help ALOT with the GT67 and 5.3......

When you order the TCC request a "turbo stator" -- drives like a dream and spools like a demon

Having said that, I personally think the turbo is too big. I think F8L tried a 67 with a smaller AR on the turbine and found it to be too laggy. I think he used a GT35??

I agree with above, you probanly need to get your tuning dialed in. Do you have a way to log your vehicle? It cool if you want to change systems but just dont give up on what you have till ya get her running good, you wont be dissapointed. Good luck in whatever rout you go. I love my kit!!!

Chris, I didnt realize that was you.
Man, do whatever makes you happy, but if we or anyone else can help you be happeir with what you have, then it will save you some money.
A stall is one of the best mods you can do with the turbo. It will make a big difference.
Also, you can go down to an .81 turbine housing which will help spool a little.
As far as the tune, mail order is harder to dial in than a good dyno or street tune. Take the time to make the trip to S.A. and let Allen tune in person.
Also, what about valve train. Stock springs? If they are floating some, and we have had some float bad, it will obviously affect performance.
STS will sell you, at cost a shield and different filter. It does help alot.
Either way, feel free to call if I can help.
