You disassemble the Tstat and place a BB in back of the spring to force it to open sooner

i think that is only for the older style that the housing and tstat are made together.

Woops... i wasnt thinking... i have a 2004 LQ4 in my truck but i used the new Water pump i had just put on my 5.3 a couple weeks before the swap...

I dont know what the newer Thermostats look like..

Mines an 05', and it took this.
on my '00 4.8 it had the whole housing like this, and the BB mod only applies to these styles i believe.
