Same length head bolts started at very end of 2003, so all 2004 model year engines have same length head bolts.

Floating rods started in fall of 2004, some 2004 model year engines have floating rods. All 2005 model year and up have floating rods.

This is not information I've heard or read on the internet. This is from hands on experience from ordering parts for rebuilds and tearing down many ls series engines.

thanks guys for the help but i guess my questions where out there already answered

so do you guys think stock pistons will hold up?
All the Gen III engines in the GMT-800’s from 1999 to 2007 Classic had a 24-tooth reluctor wheel, with the switch being made in the full-size GMT-900’s in 2007, but those were longer identified as a LQ4 or LQ9, so by default all LQ4’s had a 24-tooth reluctor wheel.

Yep my 03 has the later headbolts, SDPC said GM changed the headbolts in 03 roughly mid year and you dont know till you tear the engine apart, i put new headgaskets on mine when i tore down the topend and found this out.
