Default sts with wideband a/f guage

When you put a wideband a/f guage in the directions it say mount it after the turbo on the down pipe. Is this the same for an STS kit. Do you just cut the wires and lenghten them? Thanks for any help.

Yes, it needs to go after the turbo. I don't know what kind of WB you have, but most companies sell an extension harness so you don't have to cut and splice.

10 inches after the turbo. works great on mine and i bought my wideband from Nelson, he lengthened the wires for me. also from the top of the pipe put your sensor on a 45 angle.

I don't believe that after the turbo in the sts setup is such a good thing bacause that is after the cat(s). That gives you an inaccurate reading because the cats are burning off unburned fuel.

Mine is in front of the stock one before the cat.

Just talked to Johnathan at Nelson yesterday. He said they didn't see much of any change with it before cat, in between cat and STS, or after STS. He told me just to put it on the driver side before the cat. It has the most room and you don't have to extend any thing. I also called 3 other dyno shop. One said after cat and before STS, one said before cat, and one said after STS. Go figure. So I put 3 bungs in, one before cat ,one after cat, and one after STS.

So have you done any back to back to back testing in all three locations?

what is the difference between before the turbo or after the turbo assuming you have no cats because the turbo will just heat the air up not change the a/f ratio mixture will it ?

No, just put in the WB in last weekend. Hope to get the turbo on in the next couple of weeks. Seems like Ive said that a thousand times. I do plan on checking it in all three place, but who now how long it will be till I can do it.

Most all wide band MFG recommend that you DO NOT put the sensor BEFORE the turbo. The increase in back pressure when in boost can cause the sensor to read as much as a full point off. As far as before, after or no cats. It really doesn't make any difference from my testing. I installed my sensor 8" after the turbo (in the back). I ran with the stock cats for about 8 months and did all my own tuning with EFILive. I recently replaced the stock Y-pipe for a off-road cat-less Y-pipe and the differences in the O2 readings were negligible. Mybee .1 or.2 differences in my BIN factor, which could have been attributed to better flow though the engine because of less back pressure.
