Stock 5.3 turbo?
#21
in my opinion, you can add single or twin turbos without changing anything. Just upgrade your fuel system and add meth. I have a 05 GMC Yukon Denali with a whipple 2.3 pushing almost 20 psi. Only thing I added was fuel system and meth. You’ll have to keep your boost low, maybe no more than 5 psi and drive it sensibly.
8 year old thread....
And more boost doesn't always mean more power.

I see a lot of guys having a turbo with a small turbine and once you get to the limit of exhaust flow adding boost only adds boost not air flow.
for instance, customer brought me a truck with a 408 and twin chinese turbos that were "good for 1200hp"
It would only go 7.0s in the 1/8th mile that was on 8psi and all the way up to 26psi.
So i ordered him some FI 71mm turbos and put them on. It went a 6.1 on 8psi and a 5.4 on 22psi.
Boost is a measure of restriction. So if the setup is restricitve then adding more airflow it doesnt gain more power only heat.
Most folks dont think of airflow gains, they think in terms of boost.
20psi boost on a 66/68 turbo on say a 6.2L engine then they go and put a 96/113 turbo on and leave the same timing table in it that they were trying to make more power with on the old setup, it will just about gernade with larger turbo.
